What is child abuse?
Child abuse, neglect, and maltreatment, are all words used to describe a parent or caretaker of a child literally not taking care of them. This can take the form of committing an act upon the child, such as physical or sexual abuse; or failing to perform an act for the child, such as feeding and clothing them; or failing to protect a child from the abuse and neglectful behavior of another upon the child for whom they are responsible.  There are very technical definitions for these terms and they can be found at http//

Why is child abuse the Mission of Help For Children?
Our founder, Rob Davis, began his first career as a teacher where he encountered children right in his classroom who were obviously abused and/or seriously neglected.

And most importantly, child abuse, unlike other childhood issues such as juvenile diabetes, or pediatric oncology, does not have a constituency of parents advocating for those children.

  • Child abuse occurs across all socio-economic, religious, racial, ethnic and class divides.
  • In the United States alone, there are 3.3 million reports of child abuse each year, representing approximately 10 million children.

Child abuse and neglect is a hidden problem, happening usually behind the closed doors of the house or apartment. And it is not a topic that people want to discuss. For that reason it is often misunderstood.  What better cause for the hedge fund industry to embrace?
